On July 20, due to technical issues with EDS, VAT declarations that have not been submitted can continue to be submitted within the extended deadline.

Key points and practical tips

On July 20 of this year, due to technical malfunctions, users were temporarily unable to access the Electronic Declaration System. Currently, the accessibility of EDS has been restored; however, throughout the day, the ability to submit VAT declarations was disrupted. To allow entrepreneurs to submit them without delay, the deadline for submitting VAT declarations has been extended by two working days, that is, until July 24. Thus, VAT declarations that cannot be submitted on time by July 20 but will be submitted by July 24 will not incur delays, and accordingly, no penalties will be applied for them.

The unavailability of EDS was caused by damage to one of the oldest components of the VID IT infrastructure, created 24 years ago. The outdated infrastructure is gradually being replaced by the VID with modern solutions suitable for both higher loads and more complex data processing. The VID has already transitioned to a new payment processing information system, which has allowed the implementation of an accrual principle in budget accounting and the replacement of 42 different tax payment accounts for residents and businesses with one. This process is expected to continue by phasing out all outdated solutions, thereby also reducing the risk of system malfunctions.

This year, VID, together with LVRTC, has also started work on a new Backup Data Center. Such a data center will allow for much more efficient management of the critical information system backup data available to the VID, reducing or eliminating interruptions in the services provided by the VID to residents and entrepreneurs.

VID is the largest holder and developer of IT infrastructure in Latvia; we are doing everything possible to ensure that its restructuring during these transition years occurs with as few disruptions as possible. However, sometimes it is not possible to foresee interruptions in service delivery. We thank you for your patience and understanding. We are working together with you and will do everything to ensure that such interruptions occur as rarely as possible.
